Thanks for all the lactose-related tips from the other day. I know that I will probably be able to eat Sun Chips and butter and yogurt, but for some reason my doctor said not to until I go back in two weeks. I’m serious. I specifically asked about the Sun Chips.
In the comments of my last post, Heather mentioned that I should take a picture of my very small stove. I don’t find it very interesting – mostly I find it annoying – and almost everyone I know in New York has one the same size, but I can imagine that it would be fun for someone who has a real stove to laugh at my easy bake oven. It’s kind of like Roadside America.
Roadside America definitely makes me laugh. I am laughing right now. I had no idea it had a website.
Anyway. I am getting sidetracked. Here is my stove:
It’s hard to tell out of context, but you can’t realistically use more than two pans at the same time. I mean, you could use four small sauce pans, I guess, if you angled the handles just right. I don’t really count that as a perk, though, since I can’t envision a time when I’ll need to make four sauces at once.
I tried to take a picture of my dark and scary broiler, but it was too dark and scary to show up.
Along with my mini stove, we also have a mini fridge that looks like this:
Yes, that is Bo Jackson.
Here’s the inside:
Quite expansive, I know.
Really, though, I don’t mind my small kitchen and its small appliances. It could be smaller for sure. And I can turn on the stove from the couch. Major perk. If only I could reach the fridge, we’d really be in business.
Anyway, on to food. Today I tried some soy yogurt:
Um. Someone please tell me there’s a better kind. Right? There’s a better kind?
I also made THE cookies from Betsy’s blog:
These are for Chris because he is turning 30 on Monday. Yikes! I’m glad I’m not that old.
I hope he thought that was funny.

I’m lactose-intolerant – sorry that I missed that discussion on your blog!
Love your kitchen appliances!
Instead of soy yogurt, try this:

Wishing Chris an early happy birthday!! Those cookies look sensational.
i am CRAZY about the so delicious yogurt made from coconut milk. yes. the brand is actually called “so delicious”. (here is a picture of it! http://www.imogene.org/blog/2008/09/24/giving-up-dairy/ )
My stove and fridge are both itsy-bitsy as well. I can get four pans on my stove at once, but they have to be very carefully angled, and slid a little bit to accomodate everything!!!
I used to like WholeSoy yogurts better than Silk, but I know a lot of people really like Silk the best. Have you tried that one yet??
You know I am not going to lie to you…I have never found a soy yogurt I liked. I tried a bunch when I attempted to cut out dairy and this is the exact reason I went running back into dairy’s arms – that damn soy yogurt. I guess you can get used to it though because I never thought I would get used to plain yogurt and now I can totally eat it – with pumpkin butter.
Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on the stove. When we visited New York last month we visited the BF’s friends apartment. It was tragic and he told us how much he pays for rent and that was even more tragic. I am super spoiled with all this space over here, but I would like to turn on the stove from my couch.
Haha, amazing post as always. Your humor cracks me up!
Love the “mini” stove and fridge! Can you fit a 30 of beer in the fridge? j/k
Damn that is old! Just kidding, Chris! The mini-stove and fridge are the funniest part about NY apartments!
Coors Light FTW!
as far as i know, all soy yogurt tastes bad, and i’ve tried ALOT of soy yogurt! i wouldn’t waste anymore time or money unless you hear a good referral otherwise. i’m severely lactose intolerant, but have found out that the bacteria in yogurt break down the lactose making it easier to digest, much easier than any lactaid pills i’ve tried. i would try yogurt a little bit at a time to see if it works for you.
haha i haven’t tried soy yogurt, couldn’t help ya there.
loved seeing the pics of your kitchen though!!
happy weekend Arielle!
Your kitchen does appear to be bigger than my sister’s when she lived in New York. Her kitchen had originally been a closet…and it wasn’t a walk-in closet.
I’ve got your oven’s twin sister, only mine is dirtier. I don’t know why but I can’t get it completely clean – even with magic erasers.
And by saying mine is dirtier, I didn’t mean yours is dirty. Yours is super clean and I’m jealous.
I’m with VeggieGirl, see if you can find coconut yogurt. It lacks the protein, but tastes good.
I have always had electric ovens. With those, you just use the broiler in the regular oven. A few years ago, I moved in with my friend, and he had a gas oven with the broiler drawer underneath. Even though his oven was fancy and new, I was scared to use the broiler! It just didn’t seem right to have my food down there under the fire.
Your kitchen is cute! And mmm. awesome cookies!
Ha!
Rob is 30 too. It was pretty rough.
You’re right, that stove doesn’t look small! I think in order to truly convince us, you should take a picture of it while it’s being cooked on.
Word, holler on NY ovens. Although yours looks a lot cleaner than our will ever be and ALSO out of that small size, only two of the burners actually work. Well, three, if you fidget with one and hold your breath and count to twenty while preparing the match that you’ll inevitably have to gas you and yours with anyway. Ugh.
YUM to So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt. YUM I say.
Those cookies look fantabulous. Maybe they’ll make up for him being 30…
Yikes! I’m glad I’m not that old.
Cheap shot for all of us that are that old!!
Your fridge resembles the “college student” fridge very much. Hmmmmmmm….
wow your stove and fridge are so CLEAN!
There are other soy yogurts out there. WholeSoy (plain) happens to be my FAVORITE. Silk makes soy yogurt and So Delicious too. You could probably try those out to see if they work for you. I have to warn you So Delicious has a weird texture.
Cookies!! I love cookies!
