Another Sunday night…blah! That’s what I think about that.
Here’s the weekend eats:
On Friday, I didn’t get to post again because I ran out of time before I had to meet Chris for the movie. But for lunch, I had some more of that Trader Joe’s vegan black bean soup mixed with some refried beans:
This is a random brand of beans, but obviously any kind would work. The grocery store near my apartment has a bunch of stuff no one has ever heard of, but good luck finding standard grocery store things like ice cream and trash bags. Not happening. Anyway, here is my bowl of soup:
I used the whole can of soup and a couple spoonfuls of the beans. And cheese. Obviously.
I brought a Z Bar to the movie, and then we went out to dinner to this old school Italian restaurant. It was really good but I’m pretty sure my ravioli had at least four cups of cream sauce on it. I had to do some scrapping action, but I eventually uncovered a little pasta. Sorry, no pictures.
Moving on to Saturday. Here is my lunch:
A leftover black bean burger that I made the other night, some grapes, cucumbers, and Sun Chips. Good stuff.
I also picked up the infamous peanut butter cookie Larabar at Trader Joe’s, just to see what all the fuss was about:
Um. I did not think this was very good – I actually didn’t even eat it. It didn’t really taste like peanut butter to me. I do admire the short ingredient list (peanuts, dates, salt) but I’d rather eat two tablespoons of straight up peanut butter and call it a day. Maybe I’m just not a Larabar person, because I wasn’t a huge fan of the two other flavors I’ve had (cashew and chocolate mole, I think). Are the fruit ones better? Am I just a lost cause?
After dinner, I had some ice cream:
Which brings us to today, when I tried out this new soup for lunch:
It’s an Annie Chun’s Udon Soup Bowl with bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. It was okay. The noodles were good. I added some more mushrooms, a chopped scallion, and some soy sauce, which helped. But I wouldn’t buy it again. Check this out:
Hmm. What do you think that is? Do we want to know? It was kind of scaly. There were a lot of them. It freaked me out.
Anyway, it also didn’t really fill me up, so a few hours later I was hungry again and I had some cereal with soy milk:
No seconds. Small triumph.
But, um, some chocolate covered raisins:
More than I am showing here. Probably another handful.
And that was my weekend, or the basics, anyway.
As for this week, we’re going to try a little something different. I have a ton of work to do the next few days, and I don’t think I’m going to have time to blog my snacks. And let’s be honest, you don’t need to see five days of Z bars, anyway. So for the next week, I’m going to just blog dinner in the evenings. I have some new things to make this week, and I made two new recipes last night and tonight that I’m going to write up and post tomorrow and Tuesday, because I won’t be home to cook or eat.
Actually, I may try to switch to this format permanently in the future, but we’ll see. I’m open to comments about that. To be honest, I don’t really mindlessly snack anymore just because I’m home, so the blog has worked its magic! Or, I learned some self control. And that keeping chocolate covered pretzels in the house on a regular basis is a bad idea. Probably, it was a combination of all three.

I don’t like larabars. There I said it.
I’ll HAPPILY accept all of your leftover PB Cookie Larabars if you have any, and send you something in exchange that you DO like!!!
Sounds like a plan, for your new blog schedule/focus!!
Yea, I’m not a huge fan of the Annie Chun’s products. They just don’t do it for me.
Love the black bean burger and grapeys…and I’m so sorry you didn’t like the PB Larabar! I thought it was pretty good! VeggieGirl is going to be upset with you! (Ha I just realized she probably already commented…she had….)
Anyways! Love the bean soup idea! I’m going to have to try that!!
Have a great evening Arielle! And happy Monday!
Those pieces in the soup are definitely suspect.
hm….def suspect in that soup…i like simply asian better than annie chung brands…
a. what kind of cereal is that? it looks fab.
b. chocolate covered pretzels are my downfall.
have you tried the chocolate covered peanut
butter filled pretzels from trader joes. sakes
alive. lets just say im glad i do not live near
a trader joes or i would be one plump lass.
Larabars haven’t been overly successful with me yet either. I’m still trying. I haven’t given up yet!
That scaly thing in your soup kinda freaks me out. A lot. I wouldn’t buy it again if I found that either. Scaly things are not meant to be in soups.
I didn’t love the pb flavor either, but at least it didn’t make me gag like the key lime pie one. I’m still working my way through the flavors (as you may have noticed from my little stash), but apple pie is my favorite so far.
Looking forward to this week’s recipes!
Yikes…whatever is in the soup is definitely creepy. And I’m really not a big Larabar fan either- I actually liked the PB cookie one, but I don’t like any of the fruity ones. For the $$, I just don’t think I like ‘em enough.
Looking forward to seeing your dinner recipes!
That soup?
EW.
I don’t like Larabars either. I’ve found that I just don’t go for the taste/texture.
And, more importantly, it is never a good thing when 200 calories are gone in two bites. If I was trying to accomplish massive calorie consumption in a short amount of time, I would just eat spoonfuls of frosting. Which, personally, I find to be more appealing than ground-up dates and nuts formed into a bar.
larabars are tough to review when you’re so used to z-bars’ deliciousness. they are kind of like clay to me, but in a good way for when ur in a super duper rush. but as someone who needs to worry about calories i think they are soooo not worth it.
i think the new format will be great. the recipes are the best stuff anyway. i am doing to be blogging less too… need to get some real life action going.
I don’t like those bars at ALL. I do however LOVE South Beach Diet’s (I’m not on the diet, I just picked the bars up at a CVS one day) peanut butter protein bars. They’re 140 calories (perfect for a quick breakfast with a piece of fruit), full of protein and fiber, and, most importantly, (I think they) taste really good.
I like Laura bars. But not just for deliciousness, it like food as fuel. Good before a workout.
My favs are the key lime & cinnamon roll. I don’t like all of them.
My fav fav fav bars a luna s’mores. It’s like a candy bar. I also do adore the chocolate chip z bars.
hmm – I am a larabar fan – but definitely dont like them all. Maybe try the coconut creme pie? that is my favorite, but I also havent tried Zbars yet…i need to get some of those so I can compare.
The best Larabar flavor, in my opinion is the Apple Pie flavor. If you’re a fan of tart things, the Cherry Pie bar is good, too.
Hope that helps! Have a great week!
I think the PB Larabar isn’t that flavorful. I just ate my last one and I’m not buying them again.
I like how your can of beans invites us to Join the Revolution.
Hangry Pants –
I am proud of you. I don’t either!
VeggieGirl –
If I had anymore, I would so send them to you.
Glidingcalm –
I wish I’d asked you first!!
eatingbirdfood –
Thanks for backing me up.
Melissa S. –
I’ll give simply asia a go…
miss bee.
a. it is trader joe’s raisin clusters or something?
b. hahah plump lass! thanks for telling me about these. now I’m going to be a plump lass.
Kristie –
Yeah, it was gross.
Jaclyn –
Haven’t had the key lime…I’ll try apple pie, although I’m not much of a fruity person. I wish they had a chocolate one that wasn’t the mole kind.
Bridget –
Yeah, they are expensie.
Kristen –
Which one? Annie Chun’s? Agreed.
Alex –
I agree.
rhodeygirltests –
Yeah, that’s true. I like chocolate.
LivitLuvit –
I’ll check them out.
Jamie –
Yeah. But if I want to eat food, I want it to taste good. I’m not really the type who eats for fuel…but I see your point.
lauren –
You know, I don’t like coconut. Except I ate coconut granola, at Jaclyn’s, and I didn’t know it was coconut, and it was good. So maybe I’ll try it.
Erin –
Another vote for the apple pie! I’ll check it out. My beans are for Obama.
Larabars need to grow on you sometimes, I think. I wasn’t exactly sold the first time… but I think it does depend on the flavor.
I think the new blog format will be cool. Good luck! It’s also great that the blog has really helped you quit mindlessly snacking!
I love that “suspect” caption under your soup pic! Too funny
