I was rushing to the gym this morning and I am all out of Z Bars (!!!) so I grabbed this banana:
Clearly I was still asleep or something because I really don’t like bananas by themselves. Something about the texture freaks me out. I needed to eat something, though, because I was starving and I can’t work out when I’m hungry, so I managed to choke down half of it.
Then I went to spinning. The instructor for the class I go to on Wednesday mornings never gets on her bike. She doesn’t ride. She wears spandex. She puts on cycling shoes. And then she just stands there and walks around a little and yells things at people.
This gives me anger management issues. Her class is really, really hard, much harder than any other class I’ve taken – which makes sense, because she doesn’t have to do any work – and sometimes, I feel like I might die. Sometimes, I cannot physically pedal any faster, most likely because I’ve used too much energy cursing at her under my breath.
Today I was having one of those moments when she motioned for us to turn up the resistance even more. She was looking at me, so I pointed at her bike, suggesting that she might want to, you know, jump on and pedal a bit herself or something crazy like that.
She wasn’t thrilled, but it made me feel much better.

Haha! That’s great! I would use my anger towards her to pedal hard!
I think you might be my hero. that is fantastic!
I find it motivating when the instructor is actually doing the workout with you – what’s her deal?
oh my gosh – ha – that is awesome! why would she get all dressed up and then not ride – I would hate that. I like my instructor to be working as hard as I am in spin class!
Ahh, get more z-bars!!
I used to have a “texture thing” with bananas too; but now I eat them every single day
Haha!! I would have done the same thing, regarding that instructor
Yay, you’re back! I must say, yours is one of my fave blogs… it makes me laugh out loud all the time!
Hahah! Your bold move is hilarious.
And that’s why I’m marrying you.
You totally rock! She deserved it!
hahaha. I’ve never been to spinning, but I imagine I would be annoyed if the instructor just stood there and told me to go faster. That’s awesome that you pointed at her bike!
Amazing post, as always!
YEAH ARI! What an idiot. It’s like, OKAY LANCE. Haha, what a weirdo!
Your posts bring joy to my crappy work day. This one is great because I am an avid spinner and feel your pain.
HAHA. No way. I love it.
Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk (or in this case, I guess ride the bike).
that annoys me too. my kickboxing instructor wears full on KARATE gear and then just flails his arms at us while we gasp for air. soooo annoying.
i hate those yelling instructors who are just hanging out.
my gym does have one guy who likes to walk around and turn up the resistence FOR you. that really makes me want to punch him, especially since he’s so close but i usually don’t have the extra energy to get a good swing.
haha that’s too funny!!
it’s crazy, in spin certification, they told us that the best teaching we can do if “off the bike.” i have yet to try that method, i don’t see how you can tell someone to add resistance when you aren’t on a bike yourself. no wonder her class is so hard! sounds like you showed her!
HAHAHA. I totally want to take a spin class JUST to do that. She shouldn’t wear spandex and those shoes if she’s just gonna stand around all day! Great job =]
Your blog is really funny and I love reading it…
…But in this case I must defend your instructor. I teach spinning, and while 90% of the time I teach on the bike, I have one class a week where I walk around. It is because by Thursday night I have already taught 4 spin classes, 2 hardbodies classes, and have run on my own (not to mention a workout every day from my dog). If I were to ride that class, my legs just might fall off, or I would have to take it really easy.
So basically my point is that, if I can’t do a class full out balls to the wall, I won’t do it. Students copy what the instructor does, and if I’m slacking, the class will slack too.
But your instructor does sound like a real bitch.
Nicole –
I do. Or at least I try.
Cara –
I’m sure you would do the same thing. It is really annoying.
Sammie –
I know!
Lauren –
It’s weird, right?
VG –
Yeah, it wasn’t so bad…I still prefer them with peanut butter, though!!
V –
Thanks!!
Chris –
Really? That’s why? I expected more.
Christie –
Thanks.
Hangry –
Well yeah, because she has no idea what is going on if she’s not on a bike.
Tina –
Thanks!
Julz –
Haha
Aimee –
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Kristie –
EXACTLY.
Rhodey –
Really? That’s funny.
Allie -
Oh, I’ve seen an instructor do that to someone. That would really make me mad.
Jenn –
That’s my point!
Olga –
I know.
Sara –
I see your point, of course. I actually thought of that. And you’re right, it’s very possible and I don’t know her specific situation, and to be honest, I just felt like bitching about it. But I’ve been to her classes at other times and she doesn’t ride then either. I mean, there could be a million reasons, but if I were her I would explain whatever it is so it’s not as annoying.
Thanks for liking my blog!
Late to comment, but had to post – too funny! Like one of the others, I find it more motivating when the instructor does the workout. If she is not going to, why wear the cycling outfit??? Plus, everyone’s idea of “pushing the resistance” is difference – how would she know hard X setting is for that person? Gack.
