I swear. If someone can explain to me how to make a good cup of coffee, I would be a happy girl. I have a French press and a percolator and I just can’t get it right. I had a regular old coffee maker but I kicked it to the curb (literally…it was gone in about two seconds) because I just couldn’t get it right.

Haha, enjoy
I can never get it right either! I was analyzing this with my friend yesterday and it turned out I was using about half as many grounds as I was supposed to (because apparently I can’t tell the the difference between ounces and cups). I’m going to give it another try, but I have a feeling that no matter what I do, itwon’t beat a McDonalds ice sugar free french vanilla.
I cannot make coffee to save my life. I try and I try but no.
My husband drags himself out of bed every morning because he can’t stand to drink the swill I make.
I use a Toddy cold gravity extraction system. It makes a DAMN fine cup of coffee! Smooth, full-flavored, but low acidity — none of those icky oils swimming on the surface, either! Once you make the concentrate, you can reconstitute it either hot or cold, with any added options you want! (Milk, sugar, vanilla, etc.)
Sorry, can’t help you there. I’m perfectly happy every morning with my Taster’s Choice Instant Coffee! After that, it’s Starbucks or nothing!
My wallet and I wish that I knew how to make coffee, but I don’t. I’m pretty sure Starbucks will be sending me a thank you note one of these days, though.
Like Jennifer says, one trick for the french press is to use more coffee than you think you need. 2 tablespoons for every 6 ounces of water. I measured my (really) big mug and it was 16 ounces, so I use 6 tablespoons of coffee. Also, make sure you get your beans ground on the coarsest possible setting.
Then, you want to use water that’s ALMOST boiling, but not quite, and you want to add it, then stir with a spoon a couple of times, then let it sit exactly 4.5 minutes. Then stir again, and pour.
Good luck! Once you get French press coffee right you’ll never go back – it’s even better than Starbucks, in my humble opinion.
