One of the best Seinfeld episodes ever.
I was all out of new shrimp recipes, set to eat it in pasta, stir fry and risotto for the rest of my life, but then I thought of this mango avocado salsa mixture:
The recipe:
1 avocado
1 mango
1 1/2 limes
1/2 T honey
1/2 jalapeño
1 scallion
A TON of cilantro
salt
Just cut it up, mix it together and eat. I ate probably way too much with a spoon as I was making it. It was really good. You can adjust the amount of honey or even leave it out if your mango is really ripe – mine wasn’t. And I just cooked the shrimp with salt and pepper. Probably could’ve used some rice or something…Chris ate a Clif bar immediately after he finished his, but I was full. Boys.
When I got back from walking Jack, I was hungry again so I ate a bunch of grapes. Probably a cup or so, I don’t really know.
And, of course:

Chocolate of some form seems to have become a staple in my night life… as if alcohol wasn’t bad enough already… maybe I just need a shot of chocolate liquor of some sort every night… what kind of liquor would taste good mixed with chocolate sauce?
Salsa, Seltzer. Salsa, Seltzer.
I loved that episode too.
Your recipe for the avocado mango salsa looks awesome. I’m not a big shrimp guy, so I will eat mine with chips!
Great recipe and great photos as usual.
Chandra–I have 3 words for you. Peppermint patty shots.
Can you guess I’m a college student?
Oops – meant to go by Jenn (not eatingbender!)
Hopefully the link works now — by the way, I’m a big fan of the occasional handful — oh I might as well admit it, BOWLful — of chocolate chips.
Yum! That avocado-mango combination looks like such a fresh vibrant side! The chocolate looks delish but thats self-explanatory…
first BBQ riblet pizza; and now a mango-avocado salsa??? I’m LOVING your new meal/recipe ideas!!! ESPECIALLY this salsa recipe – thank you for sharing it!!! :0)
I’m going to pay you a very, very big compliment here.
Ready?
You make me want to be a better cook.
Great idea! I think I might have to do pineapple instead of mango though. I try so hard to like mango but it just doesnt work out. But I do love pineapple salsa… hmmm.
oh seinfeld. how you make me happy.
by the way-2 people fell off the treadmill at my gym last night. 2!!!!!! man-it was a great night.
“I’m a joke maker.”
Best Seinfeld quote ever.
its because people like to say SAL-SAHHH
i used to hate mango salsa (the regular kind everyone boring makes) but tried it again and really liked it. I think i would like this kind better though.
I cant make up recipes. its impossible for me. I either cant think of anything, or try and be creative (which means i just want to use the random crap i have in my kitchen) and it turns out horrible.
My BF will go, “WOW this is really good!” when I make soemthing, leaves most of it on his plate, and then 5 minutes later makes a PB and J sandwhich. And then gets confused when I am offended.
you need to see what your loving boyfriend wrote on my blog about the kale chips:
http://betsycookshealthy.wordpress.com/2008/04/10/kale-chips-epic-fale/
Yum, the mango/avocado combo sounds really tasty.
Chandra –
Okay, this isn’t chocolate, but have you ever had the coffee patron? I’m sure it’s called something fancier than that but it’s really good and I bet it would be fabulous mixed with chocolate sauce. I’m a tequila girl.
Chris –
You just like saying salsa. Not a shrimp guy??? That’s insane. It would be good with chips though.
Katie -
WHAT IS THAT? I need to know. How did I get through four years without a peppermint patty shot?
Jenn –
I will check it out. And I am not a measuring kind of person, but I had to start measuring out a tablespoon of chocolate chips because my eyeballed servings were more like a cup. I could eat the bag in a sitting, a swear.
Lindz-
It was rather vibrant, thank you.
VeggieGirl –
I am happy you’re impressed.
Kristen –
Wow. Thanks. But really, you don’t know how my food tastes. I could say it’s good and at the same time, Chris could be puking in the bathroom.
Cara –
Pineapple would be awesome. I had a minor pineapple addiction last summer and I’m not sure I’m ready to travel down that road yet.
Betsy –
I could watch Seinfeld and people falling off treadmills every day. Do you like Curb Your Enthusiasm?
Chris –
Very true.
Kelly T –
Boys. So dumb. Chris doesn’t even pretend anymore. See his comment on Betsy’s blog re: Kale Chips.
Sally –
It is! Try it out.
I’m honest.
Chocolate tequila?! I’m sold.
And Katie, peppermint patty shots sound familiar, but I’ve never had one! I might have to try it out this weekend…
Haha–a peppermint patty shot is pretty much chocolate syrup followed by Peppermint Schnapps (sp?). Or hot cocoa then the shot, if you’re a little more “classy.” Most guys I know down the syrup straight from the bottle and then chase it with a shot.
I can’t say that more than one or two of these is a good idea. But they are very festive.
And speaking of chocolate, I liked the Chocolate Brownie flavor Z Bar. I must be missing out if it’s the worst kind.
Katie –
That sounds like it would give me a stomach ache. But very festive. Maybe on my birthday. And the chocolate brownie is good, but the others, I think, are better. Try the chocolate chip. AMAZING.
Arielle:
I know – it’s weird, everyone seems love shrimp so much (and lobster too), but I never got into them.
Also, I have never even TASTED coffee in my entire life!
Now, that’s gotta be weird.
Chris –
That is definitely weird, but also admirable.
