I tried to whip up a little something special for a snack this afternoon but it didn’t turn out exactly as I’d hoped. I was thinking that maybe, maybe, if I cut up an apple, stuck it in the microwave with a little cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg and a sprinkling of oats it would taste like apple pie.
If only life was that easy.
It was still good, but it tasted like an apple that I stuck in the microwave with cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg and a sprinkling of oats. Duh.
I also added some plain yogurt and flax on top:
Funny story – I chose this particular bowl because when I opened the cabinet, it fell and hit me on the head.

Ehhh stupid bowl! If it makes you feel any better, i spilled half a cup of coffee on me today driving to work
So funny! Yes, if only life is that easy!
hey, your snack STILL looks great; and it took less time to make than pie! :0)
yikes, I hope you don’t bruise from having that bowl fall on your head – I guess it REALLY wanted to be used ;0) feel better!!
Oh G-d… Can I just say that things falling out of cabinets and hitting me in the head is one of the few things that make me SO angry?! I cant help but like blow up… And I’m so the opposite of that! Haha, this post made me laugh. Kind of funny, considering I never laugh when I read Ari’s blog… =)
Hope you are enjoying your Friday!!
I think we’ve all been there… thinking “OOH WHAT A GOOD COMBO!” and then bam, it’s yucky… but sometimes, it’s amazing, which is why we keep trying. =)
yeah i do that a lot. I think i have an amazing healthy cheap way to make something that is usually not so healthy or cheap and find out the original tastes good because it is full of butter, or the original costs a lot to make because it has a lot of ingredients. I usually end up eating it anyway though.
I’m pretty sure there is no healthy substitution for pie that exists. I’ve tried it all. I’ve even put little apple slices in a cute little dish and tried to bake it with margarine, pie spices, splenda, and even a little crumb crust…it was nothing like dessert.
The Book French Women Don’t Get Fet has some interesting dessert recipes Ive been dying to try. Unfortunately, I;m not sure they are healthy at all since the whole book is about eating in moderation.
Lindz –
That is much worse! Sorry. Hope your day got better after that!
Karen –
I know, it’s sad.
VeggieGirl –
It didn’t hit me that hard, I think I’ll be okay. It’s plastic
Julz –
Yeah, it’s annoying. It makes me mad at whoever put it up there, which is usually Chris.
Romina –
Well said.
Kelly T –
I know, I do it all the time. I guess pie is just pie. Very profound.
Hannah –
Yeah, well, it’s always worth a try I guess. I think apples are good if you cook them in a pan with a little butter (or smart balance or whatever) and cinnamon. Better than the microwave. But then you have to add vanilla ice cream, of course, and things just go down hill from there.
That bowl was definitely not very nice! haha
